Biography
Olga Lacayo is a Garifuna educator and author. She has more than 38 years of experience in the field of education. She has been a preschool teacher, master teacher and teacher educator. Currently, she facilitates equity-driven professional development, focusing on multi-language learning. She is also a community activist. Lacayo has a master’s degree in education with a concentration in Dual Language Learning and a bachelor’s in child and Adolescent Development with emphasis on children and families. Lacayo encourages adults to listen, question, learn and act so together we can break the silence about bias and racism in the Early Education classroom. She believes teacher’s empowered voices are essential in working for more equitable classrooms where children and adults are protected from the damaging impact of racial prejudice. Olga has two adult bilingual and bicultural sons and shares her time between the US and her indigenous village in Honduras. Olga Speaks Garifuna, Spanish and English.
